These two, though. Their wedding will forever be one of my most favorites.
It's not because their details were on point (although they totally were). It's not because they chose an awesome venue we'd never shot before (it's a local favorite that we shoot often in the summer). It's not even because the sun strategically hid behind clouds for all of the important parts of the day (which was stellar). It was much simpler than that.
Together, they are two of the sweetest, quirkiest, and most creative couples we've ever met. Although their wedding was just as planned and perfected as any other wedding we shoot each weekend, they didn't stress about the details. Like, at all. They were in the moment. They were in love. They were refreshing. Being fans of C.S. Lewis, 30 Rock, and The Starting Line didn't hurt either.
To top it off, they ditched typical traditions. There were no assigned seats or sides. There was no bouquet or garter toss (it would have hurt my heart to see this bouquet tossed - just wait until you see it). There was a ban on glass/bell clanging at the reception. It was stripped of all of the staged parts of weddings. The parts that never really breed real emotion.
They were married on an orchard, totally surrounded by natural light and grainy wood. Sort of the perfect backdrop for a Carpenter and his bride. Although it took place smack dab in the middle of summer, the light was generously even. My favorite. After a sweet outdoor ceremony, the couple, surrounded by so much family and so many friends, danced for hours before they lit sparklers and left. It was an absolute pleasure and honor to capture all of it.
